MEDIA RELEASE

South Hilo Community Policing and Patrol officers arrested three adults for liquor and illicit drug violations in a sweep of public areas in Hilo Friday night (April 23, 1999).

Police arrested and charged James Haber, 42, of no permanent address, with one count of illegally drinking malt liquor in a public place and three counts of promoting detrimental drugs for possessing marijuana. Haber was released on his own recognizance.

Officers also arrested and charged Lawrence Rillon, 49, and his wife, Gail Patricia Rillon, 44, both of no permanent address, at the Mooheau Bus Terminal for illegally drinking beer in a public place.

The Rillons are being held at the Hilo cellblock in lieu of $25 bail.

Friday’s sweep was part of an ongoing operation conducted to keep public places safe for the public to enjoy.

Community Policing officers are reminding residents that consuming alcoholic beverages in public areas is in violation of the law.
