MEDIA RELEASE

Police arrested a 39-year-old Hilo man Tuesday (July 29, 2003) for a variety of offenses, including attempted murder, after he allegedly shot at four persons.

Responding to a 3:15 p.m. call, South Hilo patrol officers arrested a suspect, identified as Damian Alfred Fontes, of a Mauna Iho Place address.

Fontes was arrested for attempted murder, reckless endangering, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and a number of other firearms offenses. He is being held in the Hilo police cellblock pending further investigation by Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives.

Police determined that the suspect threatened to shoot four persons — three males and a female — at a residence next door. The suspect allegedly fired at them with a handgun outside, then chased them inside the house and continued firing at them.

No one was injured in the incident, however, and police recovered a .32-caliber revolver when they arrested the suspect.
