MEDIA RELEASE

Hilo Vice Section officers investigating the distribution of crystal methamphetamine converged Monday afternoon (July 8, 2002) on what appeared to be a drug transaction in Hilo.

Vice officers arrested Jay Kailimai, 49, of Hilo, for possession of 4.7 ounces of crystal methamphetamine, three ounces of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and $7,011 in U.S. currency seized for forfeiture.

Kailimai was arrested about 3:40 p.m. Monday after a police dog alerted officers to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle Kailimai was driving.

Kailimai was released from police custody pending further investigation, and the Hawaii County Police Department will be seeking federal prosecution by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
