Police are looking for a gunman who robbed a 53-year-old Hilo man Friday morning (June 29, 2001) at Panaewa Park.

The victim told police that he had caught a ride with the suspect to the park and about 9 a.m. was in the car when the suspect flashed a dark-colored revolver at him and demanded cash.

No one was injured in the robbery, and the suspect fled after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash.

The victim described the suspect’s car as an older faded blue Honda four-door sedan.

He also described the suspect as being a Filipino male, being 5-feet-8 in height, weighing about 200 pounds with a husky build and having a dark complexion. He said the suspect wore a dark green tank top and reddish surf shorts with a white flower print.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the identity of the suspect is asked to call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
