Big Island police are looking for a man who robbed a department story in Hilo on Wednesday.

The man, who appeared to be in his 20s, was looking at a watch in the jewelry department of Macy’s. When the employee who was helping him asked for the watch back, he declined and said he was taking it. He made a reference to shooting the employee but didn’t produce a weapon. A witness saw a bulge under the man’s clothing.

The suspect left the store and got into what was described as a blue Mazda protégé with tinted windows, a rear spoiler, after-market chrome rims and a white “stunna” sticker on the rear window. He was described as Caucasian, 5-foot-10, 175 pounds with a medium build, lightly-tanned skin and short black hair. He was reportedly wearing a black T-shirt, shorts and slippers.

Police ask anyone who sees the car or knows the identity of the suspect to call Detective Robert Hatton at 961-2380 or the Police Department’s non-emergency number at 935-3311.
