A 19-year-old female told police she was sexually assaulted Thursday (March 28, 2002) at a beach park in Hilo’s Keaukaha area.

The victim said an unidentified male picked her up at Leleiwi Beach Park at about 10 a.m. and drove her in an older model four-door sedan to an unknown beach park in Keaukaha, where he sexually assaulted her.

She described her assailant as a Caucasian male of an unknown age, being about 5-feet-10 in height and weighing 190-200 pounds. Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the assailant is asked to call Detective Grace Castillo of the Hilo Juvenile Aid Section at 961-2278 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or recovery of property.
