Big Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying whoever fired at least one shot at a Naupaka Street home in Honokaa.  An elderly couple reported to Hamakua police that someone shot a bullet into their home around 1:30 a.m. Saturday (February 3).

The projectile passed through the couple’s bedroom, nearly striking both occupants. Though shaken, they did not receive any physical injuries.

Detectives assigned to the Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation into the shooting, which is classified as first-degree reckless endangering.    

Police ask anyone with information about the case to call Detective Lucille Melemai at 961-2377 or the Police Department’s non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.  All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
