MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police Friday (January 28, 2000) reclassified the death of an infant girl in Pahoa, Puna, from a coroner’s inquest to murder.

Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives reclassified the case after the results of an autopsy determined the baby had died of malnutrition and after they had conferred with county prosecutors.

Responding to a 9:15 p.m. call on October 27, 1999, police found the infant unresponsive in her crib.

No arrests have been made yet, and Hilo CIS detectives are continuing the investigation.
