Media Release

A 55-year-old Ka’u man was hospitalized Sunday (September 7) after being hit by a sports-utility vehicle driven by his girlfriend.

Early Sunday morning, Ka’u police responded to a report of a motor vehicle-pedestrian crash on Koa Lane. They found the victim with extensive injuries to the right side of his body. Police learned that the crash followed a domestic argument with the driver.

The victim was taken to The Queens Medical Center on Oahu in critical but stable condition.

Police arrested 54-year-old Linda Ninefeldt of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates for negligent injury. She was taken to the Kona police cellblock and then released pending further investigation Monday (September 8) at 7:05 p.m.

Detectives from the Area II Juvenile Aid Section are continuing the investigation.
