Ka’u police are asking for the public’s help in solving a major burglary in which several items were taken from a home in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision.
Police said the burglary occurred some time between March 16 and April 1, 2002, when a suspect or suspects pried open a rear door of the residence and took a number of items valued at a total of $22,241.
Among the items stolen were a complete solar system with solar panels from the roof of the house, a Grundfos brand water pump and a Wellmate brand 60-gallon pressure tank, a Paloma propane water heater PH-12M, a propane wall header, a Toshiba 36âÄ”inch color television set with a black stand, a Toshiba VCR, a GoVideo VCR, a white GE microwave, a Pioneer stereo system, a 24-volt Air-303 wind turbine, eight Trojan L-16 deep cycle batteries, and miscellaneous fishing equipment and tackle. The fishing equipment included Penn rods and reels and tackle located in a large brown Pro-line tackle box.
Anyone with information thieves is asked to call the Ka’u police station at 939-2520 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
