MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

A man was being held without bail in the Kona police cellblock after he was charged Wednesday (May 5, 1999) in an assault on two women last month.

At 1:03 p.m., Kona Criminal Investigation Section detectives charged Michael Moore, 48, of Kona, with one count of attempted first-degree assault, one count of second-degree assault and two counts of abuse of a family or household member.

Moore was arrested Tuesday after being detained by Kahaluu housing area residents who recognized him and called police. He had been sought for injuring the two women in an April 28, 1999, attack at the housing complex.

The two injured women, one 23 and the other 20, were struck with a hammer while in their apartment. They were treated for their injuries at the Kona Community Hospital and released.
