MEDIA RELEASE

Police are asking for the public’s help in solving a burglary and theft that occurred last month in the Kalaoa area of Kona.

Police determined that between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on July 26, 2000, a burglar or burglars broke into a home and stole jewelry, credit cards and cash. They also stole a 1994 maroon-colored Toyota crew cab pickup truck parked in front of the residence. The truck had the license number HWA-792 and had a black pipe rack.

The truck has since been seen in the Kona area, but police said the license plate may have been changed and the pipe rack removed.

Anyone with information about the burglary and theft or who knows the identity of the thieves is asked to call the police at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 329-8181 in Kona or 961-8300 in Hilo. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
