MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Kona police have identified a man whose body was found early Sunday (May 2, 1999) as Jonathan Umiamaka, 24, of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates.

Responding to a 12:45 a.m. call, Kona patrol officers found Umiamaka’s body lying face down in the underground parking lot of Waterfront Row in Kailua-Kona.

The victim had apparent head injuries. He is believed to have died sometime between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Police have classified the case as a corner’s inquest. They have scheduled an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone who may have information about the man’s death is asked to call Detective Guy Kaniho of the Kona Criminal Investigation Section at 326-4232.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 329-8181 in Kona or 961-8300 in Hilo. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property.
