A Kailua-Kona man is in police custody for drug charges following a raid in Kona on Thursday (October 21).

Vice officers who served a search warrant at a home in the Kona Palisades subdivision Thursday morning recovered 5.9 grams of 4-methylmethcathinone, also known as 4-MMC, which was recently placed on the controlled substance list as a Schedule I hallucinogenic drug. Officers also recovered .4 grams of cocaine, one hydrocodone pill, 2 1/2 prescription amphetamine pills, 39 methylphenidate tablets, 14.8 grams of processed marijuana and $1,303 in cash for forfeiture.

Two residents, 27-year-old Casey Matheson and 29-year-old Virginia Shy, were arrested at the scene. Matheson was initially charged with contempt of court for an outstanding bench warrant.

Shy was released Thursday afternoon without charges.

Matheson was charged Thursday afternoon with promoting a detrimental drug, nine counts of promoting a dangerous drug and seven counts of possessing drug paraphernalia. He is being held at the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $206,000 bail pending an initial court appearance scheduled for Monday.
