On Saturday (October 23) at approximately 2:30 p.m., Kona Patrol Officers and Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a fire on the mauka side of Kuakini Highway near the entrance to Kahakai Estates in Kailua-Kona.

Upon arrival emergency personnel found a pickup truck and a boat and trailer completely engulfed in flames. A small wooden structure in the area was also on fire. Fire fighters extinguished the fires but the pickup truck as well as the boat and trailer were a complete loss. The wooden structure sustained exterior damage. The total value of the damaged property has yet to be determined.

Detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigation Section are continuing the investigation into the cause of the fire. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Sharlotte Bird, at 326-4646, extension 228.
