Kona infant injured, parents arrested 06-20-04

At 10:30 p.m. Saturday (June 19, 2004), Kona police responded to a call from the Kona Community Hospital after a six-week-old infant was brought to the emergency room having difficulty breathing. On further examination, it was determined that the infant was suffering from multiple bodily injuries.

The female infant was taken into protective custody by police and was later flown to the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children on Oahu, where she was listed in critical condition.

Police have initiated an endangering the welfare of a minor investigation and arrested both parents without incident at the hospital. The parents were subsequently released pending further investigation by West Hawaii Juvenile Aid Section detectives.
