West Hawaii Ice Task Force and Vice Section officers arrested a 27-year-old man for a variety of drug offenses Monday (April 12, 2004) after executing a search warrant in the Keauhou area of North Kona.

The suspect, identified as Michael K. Silva, of no permanent address, was charged with two counts of promoting dangerous drugs and two counts of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.

Silva was also arrested on a Kona District Court bench warrant for contempt of court. He is being held at in the Kona police cellblock in Kealakehe in lieu of a total bail of $11,300.

Silva was arrested and charged after officers recovered 39 mini-zip lock packets containing nearly 10 grams of “ice,” or crystal methamphetamine. A motor vehicle and $776 in currency were also seized for possible forfeiture.

The search warrant was the result of concerned citizens who called the Ice Hotline to report drug information.

Police are continuing their efforts to address the “ice” problem on the Big Island. The Ice Hotline offers one means in which the public can anonymously report information relating to illicit drug use and distribution.
