A 1 year old Kailua-Kona boy was killed Thursday (October 6, 2005) from injuries he sustained on a private driveway off of Paiaha Street.

The victim was identified as Teiji Kuni.

Responding to a 5:46 p.m. call, Kona Patrol Officers determined that a silver 1998 Honda four door sedan was reversing on the private driveway when the child was struck. The vehicle was operated by a David Kuni III, M-28, of Kailua-Kona, the child’s father.

The child was transported to Kona Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:58 p.m.

A standard Negligent Homicide investigation has been initiated and an autopsy has been ordered to determine exact cause of death.

Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in this crash.

In that this occurred on a private driveway, this crash is not classified as a Traffic Fatality.
