Police have suspended a Kona patrol officer pending further investigation into charges that he revealed confidential information to individuals being investigated by federal authorities.

The officer was notified at 4:10 p.m. Friday (October 4, 2002) that he was on suspension pending the outcome of an investigation into charges that he allegedly hindered prosecution and violated several police department rules and procedures.

A four-year veteran with the department, he is the subject of a criminal investigation by the Hilo and Kona Criminal Investigation Sections and an administrative investigation by the Internal Affairs Unit.

Federal authorities are also involved in the investigation.
