Police are looking for a male suspect who attempted to rob two German tourists Wednesday evening (September 8, 1999) in Kailua-Kona.
Responding to a call at 7:45 p.m., Kona patrol officers learned that the two women, a 23-year-old from Berlin and a 26-year-old from Grossziethen, were walking near a hotel on Alii Drive when they were approached by an unknown male who brandished a handgun and demanded their purses.
When the would-be robber made his demand, the two women ran. The suspect chased one of the women, who turned and struck him with her handbag. The suspect then fled empty-handed.
The suspect was described as a Caucasian male with a slim build, being about 5-feet-8 in height and having blue eyes. He was wearing a hood hat and had a red woolen scarf around his face. He was wearing a blue jacket, a white shirt and dark pants.
Anyone with information about attempted robbery or the suspect is asked to call Kona Patrol at 326-4208.
