Kona police arrested a Kailua-Kona man late Sunday (September 3, 2006) in connection with a stabbing on Henry Street above the entrance to Lanihau Shopping Center.

In response to an 11:13 p.m. report of a stabbing, the officers found a 60-year-old man with an apparent stab wound to the ribs. Witnesses at the scene had already taken the knife from the suspect and had been following him while waiting for police.

Fire rescue personnel took the victim to Kona Community Hospital, where he underwent surgery. He was listed in serious condition.

Twenty-two-year-old Alex Joseph Ackles, who has no permanent address, was arrested but not charged on suspicion of attempted murder. He is being held at the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the West Hawaii Criminal Investigations Section continue their investigation.
