Kona police have arrested a 27-year-old Captain Cook man for attempted murder and a variety of other offenses stemming from a domestic dispute that occurred early Monday (July 15, 2002) in which he shot at his girlfriend as she drove away in a car.

The suspect, identified as Duane Grace, gave himself up to police at the Kealakehe station at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday.

He was arrested for attempted murder, first-degree reckless endangering, terroristic threatening, abuse of a family or household member, having an illegal place to keep a firearm, prohibited ownership of a firearm, having no permit to acquire a firearm, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, third-degree theft and second-degree criminal property damage.

He is being held at the Kona police cellblock pending further investigation by Domestic Violence Unit detectives.

Grace allegedly got into an argument with his girlfriend about 4:15 a.m. Monday in the rear parking lot of the Coconut Grove on Alii Drive.

The woman, who was not injured, drove to the Kealakehe station and reported the incident to police.
