MEDIA RELEASE

A 25-year-old man was killed and a 32-year-old woman critically injured in a head-on collision Saturday (June 28, 2003) on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) in North Kona.

The victim was identified as Ogden Ingalls, of a Honokaa, Hamakua, address.

Responding to a 10:54 a.m. call, police determined that Ingalls was driving his 1990 Ford pickup truck north when it crossed the centerline and crashed into a 2003 Dodge sports utility vehicle driven by Maria Walley, of Ookala, North Hilo.

Walley was taken to the North Hawaii Community Hospital in South Kohala and was later flown to Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, where she was reported in critical condition.

Ingalls’ body was taken to the Kona Community Hospital.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers are continuing an investigation into the crash and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of Ingalls’ death.

Saturday’s death was the 16th traffic fatality so far this year on the Big Island, compared to 14 at the same time last year.
