Marijuana eradication sweep nets 9,283 plants 07-19-02

Hilo Vice Section officers ripped up a total of 9,283 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to eight feet during a five-day eradication effort that ended Friday (July 19, 2002).

The eradication effort concentrated in the East Hawaii area, specifically the Puna, Hilo, North Hilo and Hamakua Districts of the Big Island.

The confiscated marijuana was growing in 609 separate plots in the areas covered by the eradication effort.

Last month, Hilo Vice Section officers destroyed a total of 14,425 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to six feet during a five-day eradication effort that ended on June 28.
