Big Island vice officers confiscated 4,429 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to three feet during a five-day operation that ended Friday (November 9, 2001).

Big Island vice officers were joined in the operation by personnel from the Statewide Marijuana Eradication Task Force.

This week’s marijuana sweep — which covered areas of Hamakua, North Hilo, South Hilo, Puna and Ka’u — was part of the department’s continuing “Counter-Cannabis Field Operation.”

The operation concentrated on the areas of Paauilo in Hamakua; Ninole in North Hilo; Akaka Falls in South Hilo; Pahoa, Kapoho and Black Sands in Puna; and Naalehu, Pahala and Kapapala in Ka’u
