Big Island police officers confiscated 2,973 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to five feet during a three-day operation that ended Wednesday (May 22, 2002).

Agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration and personnel from the Hawaii Army National Guard counter-drug program worked with Big Island officers.

This week’s marijuana sweep — which covered areas of North Hilo, South Hilo, Puna and South Kohala — was part of the department’s continuing “Counter-Cannabis Field Operation.”

The operation concentrated on the areas of Umauma in North Hilo; Keaukaha, Panaewa, and Honomu in South Hilo; Glenwood, Kurtistown, Mt. View and Pahoa in Puna; and Waimea in South Kohala.
