MEDIA RELEASE

A North Kohala man was reported missing Sunday afternoon (December 19, 1999) when he failed to return from snorkeling at the Kapaa Beach Park.

About 4 p.m., the victim, Ivan Esterle, 45, of Ainakea, North Kohala, had gone to the park for a half-hour of snorkeling in the bay while his wife, Cynthia Esterle, 44, waited in their car at the park,

As darkness fell, she became concerned and called the police at about 6 p.m.

Two helicopters and a Kona fire rescue boat assisted in the search for the missing man between Mahukona and Kapaa Beach Parks. The search was suspended at 9:45 p.m. and will resume Monday morning at daybreak.
