MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Police have called off a search for a 35-year-old female visitor who was reported missing in South Kohala.

The missing woman, identified as Alicia Soto, of Los Angeles, California, was found about 9 a.m. Wednesday (September 3, 2003) after she had been reported missing the previous Monday.

Police said the woman went for a walk and apparently became disoriented in lava fields and got lost. She eventually made her way to a road, where she was picked up by a passing motorist and driven to the Mauna Lani fire station in Waikoloa. Later she was taken to the North Hawaii Community Hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises.

Soto, who is visiting family members in Waikoloa, was reported missing after she had been last seen late Monday afternoon at the Paniolo Club condominium in Waikoloa.
