During the week of June 26, 2007, through July 2, 2007, Big Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunk driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. One of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 664 DUI arrests compared with 596 during the same period last year, an increase of 11 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,048 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,274 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18 percent.

So far this year, there have been 17 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 17 during the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
