MEDIA RELEASE CORRECTION

Police said Tuesday (July 3, 2001) that the driver of a car which collided with another car and killed a 56-year-old Paauilo woman was Daniel Carse.

The driver had been incorrectly identified as David Carse.

Daniel Carse, 22, of Kailua-Kona, was driving a 2000 Honda Civic south on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 190) on June 27 when his car crossed the centerline near the eight-mile marker and collided with a 1988 Honda Accord driven north by Rita Jose, who was injured in the accident.

Jose, was flown to Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, where she died at 10:29 p.m. Sunday (July 1).

Carse was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor, lane usage violation, having an open vessel, failure to have no-fault automobile insurance and three counts of negligent injury. He was released pending further investigation.

Police have initiated a standard negligent homicide investigation and ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Sunday’s death was the 16th traffic fatality so far this year on the Big Island, compared to 20 at the same time last year.
