Media Release

Two North Kohala men were arrested earlier this month following a report of possible illegal night hunting.

On February 13 around 8:48 p.m., North Kohala police officers responded to a report of gunshots from possible illegal hunters in the area of Cannery Road. Officers located 30-year-old Kenika Matsuda of Keokea and 28-year-old Aric Hoshida of Hawi in a pickup truck as it was leaving the area. During checks of the vehicle, officers located hunting dogs and a wild boar carcass in the truck’s bed. After further investigation, officers also recovered marijuana and a rifle.

Both parties were arrested for night hunting and third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug. They were released pending further investigation.
