Media Release

A 26-year-old Kamuela man died Wednesday (November 17) from injuries he received in a motorcycle crash on Kohala Ranch Road, 152 feet north of Kanaloa Drive in North Kohala.

The victim was identified as Patrick K. Bowles, of a Kamuela address.

Responding to a 8:51 p.m. call, North Kohala patrol officers determined that the victim was operating a 2006 KTM motorcycle and traveling north on Kohala Ranch Road when he struck a cow on the roadway.

The victim was transported to the North Hawaii Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:47 p.m.

The victim was wearing a helmet.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are involved but speed appears to be a factor in this crash.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a coroner’s inquest case and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Being that this death occurred on a private road, it is not counted towards the island’s official traffic fatality count.
