The Paauilo Tigers beat the What? 27-7 to win the championship of the Girls 12 Under Basketball Tournament held Saturday and Sunday (May 12-13, 2001) at the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii-Hilo Clubhouse Gym.

Joliese Ancheta-DeMello with 8 points, Chelsea Sugiyama with 7 points and Sierra Gacayan and Jaliese Ancheta-DeMello with 6 points each led the Tigers in scoring.

Other members of the team were Brittany Castro, Shalissa Frazier and Lauren Domingo. The Tigers were coached by Mason Souza, Darren Gomera and Layne Guzman.

In other action, the Andrews Waves battled past HI-PAL Extreme 19-12 to win third place in the tournament. Ashley Werner scored 7 points and Brittni Lindsey scored 6 to lead the Waves to victory.

Eight teams participated in the two-day tournament. The other teams were Zoom, Waimea Ponekos, HI-PAL Warriors and the Kona Stingrays.
