Sign wavers promote 'Pedestrian Safety Month'

Media Release

The Hawaiʻi  Police Department’s Traffic Services Section organized a sign-waving event on Kamehameha Avenue in Hilo on Wednesday (August 3) to raise awareness that August is “Pedestrian Safety Month” for the State of Hawai`i.

This is the second year in which August has been declared “Pedestrian Safety Month” in Hawaiʻi to encourage safe pedestrian behavior and to heighten drivers’ awareness about pedestrians. The goal is to save lives and make Hawaiʻi a safer place to walk.

The Traffic Services Section was supported by the area MADD Coordintor, representatives of HOPE Services Hawaiʻi and a Hilo High School student.
