MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police have arrested a 20-year-old Kona man for allegedly burglarizing a Kailua-Kona restaurant on Alii Drive.

The suspect was identified as Daniel Alcos, of Kalaoa, Kona.

Responding to a 1 a.m. alarm call at the restaurant Friday (May 20, 2005), Kona patrol officers discovered the suspect inside the restaurant. The suspect then jumped from the second floor restaurant and fled towards Kuakini Highway (Route 19) on foot.

Officers pursued the suspect on foot for about a quarter mile while attempting to radio for backup assistance.

During the chase, a civilian taxi driver got out of his car and joined the pursuit. The officers were able to chase down the suspect and apprehend him on Kuakini Highway near the Kona West condos.

Alcos is being held at Kona police cellblock pending further investigation for burglary, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest and promoting a dangerous drug. He is also being held on two outstanding bench warrants.

The case has been turned over to West Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section for further investigation.
