Police seek assailants in July 9 attack 09-10-02

Police are seeking the public’s help in locating five suspects who attacked two male tourists in early July.

The victims were attacked July 9, 2002, in front of Anthony’s nightclub and restaurant at the Highland Shopping Center in Waikoloa, South Kohala. The two had just left the club at the 2 a.m. closing time when they were punched and kicked by five assailants, described only as local males with very short hair.

Anyone with information about the incident or the identify of any of the suspects is asked to call Officer Thomas E. Fratinardo of the South Kohala Patrol at 887-3080 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
