Police are seeking the public’s help in solving the theft of a Craftsman riding lawnmower from the USDA’s National Clonal Germplasm Repository on Stainback Highway.

Sometime between 4 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2001, and 6:30 a.m. the following Monday, a thief or thieves stole the green Craftsman 20.5-horsepower, 42-inch riding mower from the repository, located about 1.7 miles east of the Volcano Highway (Route 11). The mower was valued at $1,500.

Anyone with information about the theft or the identity of those responsible is asked to call Detective Andrew S. Burian of the Hilo Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2381 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
