MEDIA RELEASE

A 16-year-old male was injured Thursday (February 5, 2004) during an attempted robbery at a hotel along the Kohala Coast.

Responding to an 8:40 p.m. call, South Kohala patrol officers determined that an unknown male walked up behind the victim, shoved him and demanded money or anything of value. When the victim was unable to give the suspect anything of value, the suspect struck him in the face and then fled the area.

The suspect was described as being a black male, bald and clean shaven, being from his early 20s to late 30s in age, being from 5-foot-11 to six feet in height and weighing from 180 to 200 pounds. The suspect was wearing a white crew neck T-shirt and blue Hawaiian print surf shorts, carrying a black backpack and wearing black bicycle motor cross gloves. He also had a tattoo on his inner left forearm and was wearing earrings in both ears.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery attempt to call Officer Kenneth Quiocho of the South Kohala Patrol at 887-3080, the West Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section at 326-4207 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
