Police Seeking Robbery Assailants 08/23/00

Police are asking for the public’s help in apprehending two robbers who assaulted an 18-year-old male standing at a Hilo bus stop and stole his shoes and wristwatch.

Investigators learned that the victim was standing at a bus stop at 119 West Lanikaula Street at about 6:30 p.m. Monday (August 21, 2000) when he was approached from behind by two males.

The victim told police that as he turned to look, he was punched by one of the suspects and further assaulted.

The assailants then stole the victim’s Nike shoes and a Citizen-type wristwatch. They were last seen heading toward a nearby apartment complex.

One of the robbers was described as being a local male in his 20s, being about 5-feet-8 in height, weighing about 180 pounds with a heavy build and having a tan complexion and long black hair. He was last seen wearing black shorts, a white short and sandals.

The second assailant was described as being a local male also in his 20s, being about 6 feet in height, weighing about 200 pounds with a heavy build and having a tan complexion and short blond hair in a buzz cut. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, no shirt, black shorts and black shoes.

Anyone with information about incident or the identities of the suspects is asked to call police at 935-3311.
