Police Seize Marijuana in Ka’u Operation 11-16-00

Kona police recovered more than 175 marijuana plants during a raid Thursday (November 16, 2000) on a residence in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision of Ka’u.

With assistance from the U.S. Department of Drug Enforcement Administration, the Hawaii National Guard and the State Department of Land and Natural Resources, Kona Vice Section officers executed a search warrant on the residence after officers had observed marijuana plants growing on the property.

Officers recovered 72 plants ranging in height from two to three feet growing on the property and more than 100 plants ranging in height from one to two feet in an indoor marijuana growing operation.

Officers also recovered about four pounds of dried marijuana packaged for distribution. In addition, they seized five handguns and a shotgun, all loaded.

No arrests were made, and officers are continuing their investigation.

The operation was part of the Police Department’s continuing Counter-Cannabis Field Operations.
