MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawaii County Police Department has announced that it will no longer assign a police officer to direct traffic at the intersection of Komohana and Punahele Streets.

Police said that because of the improved traffic pattern created by the Mohouli Street extension, they will stop directing traffic at the intersection effective May 1, 2002.

Sergeant Randy Apele of the Traffic Services Section requests that all motorists use extra care and caution when traveling in the area of Komohana and Punahele Streets during school traffic to ensure a safe transition from officer-directed traffic.

The County Department of Public Works also will conduct a study of the one-way morning traffic pattern on Waianuenue Avenue during school days to see if any adjustments should be made.
