Police are warning residents to be on guard against persons selling fraudulent automobile insurance policies.

Hilo police have received complaints that fraudulent sales personnel have stopped individuals leaving a local insurance agency offering to give them “a better deal” on automobile insurance.

Police also advised residents to contact their insurance agencies to make sure they have a current automobile insurance.

They also advised anyone with information about the phony insurance scam to call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
