Police warn offices of Hilo thief 12-23-02

Police are cautioning business establishments in the downtown Hilo and Waianuenue areas about a male suspect who is stealing purses and pocketbooks from offices.

Police said a suspect has entered various businesses posing as a patient or client and then stealing items from the office staff.

The suspect is described as being a local Caucasian, about 35 to 40 years of age, being about 6 feet in height, weighing about 170 pounds with a medium build and having dark brown shoulder-length hair thinning in front. He is also described as always carrying a dark-colored backpack.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s identity is asked to call Officer Robert Pauole of the South Hilo Patrol at 961-2212 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
