Puna Community Policing and Patrol officers arrested a 31-year-old Pahoa man Thursday (April 15, 1999) after running across an unfinished indoor marijuana growing operation.

Officers arrested Gary M. Krenpl, 31, on suspicion of commercial promotion of a detrimental drug and possessing illegal drug paraphernalia. The suspect was released pending further investigation.

At about noon, the officers went to the Waawaa subdivision near Kapoho in lower Puna on a personal assist for a property owner when they discovered an indoor growing operation in the process of being constructed at a residence.

They confiscated about 1.75 pounds of dried processed marijuana, pipes and indoor growing equipment such as timers, atmosphere regulators and grow lights. Police also confiscated $3,000 in cash.
