Puna man arrested after fatal shooting 11-21-02

Police have arrested a 55-year-old man on suspicion of second-degree murder after a fatal shooting early Thursday (November 21, 2002) in Kapoho, Puna.

Delan Armstrong Perry was arrested in the shooting and is being held in the Hilo police cellblock pending further investigation by Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives.

Police said the victim, described only as a male, had not been positively identified as of Thursday afternoon.

Police said the shooting occurred about 3:30 a.m. at Perry’s residence.

Perry’s wife called police to report the shooting. Perry was waiting for the officers when they arrived and was taken into custody without incident.

So far, no charges have been filed in the case, and detectives have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
