A 37-year-old Puna man was in critical condition early Friday at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu (August 25, 2000) after being shot in the chest Thursday afternoon.

Responding to a 4:54 p.m. call, Puna patrol officers arrested a 23-year-old man after they determined that he had allegedly shot the victim in the chest during an argument at a home in the lower portion of Hawaiian Beaches subdivision of Puna.

The victim was initially taken to Hilo Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery and was later transported to Queen’s.

The suspect is currently being held in Hilo police cellblock pending further investigation by Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives.
