MEDIA RELEASE

Kona police are seeking the public’s help in identifying one of two men who robbed a Honokaa man Sunday morning (May 14, 2006) in South Kohala.

The second suspect, 36-year-old David Elden Tabura, was arrested Sunday and charged Tuesday with two crimes. One was for the robbery and the other was for an unrelated burglary Sunday afternoon. Tabura’s bail was set at $100,000 bail.

The 26-year-old robbery victim reported that he was sitting in his vehicle at Lindsey Road near the ball park in South Kohala when two men in their 30s approached him sometime between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Sunday. The two men demanded his wallet and threatened him if he didn’t comply. They took cash and property and then left the area.

South Kohala patrol officers located the suspect’s vehicle and recovered some of the robbery victim’s property.

At about 2 p.m. that same day, witnesses saw a man enter and exit an apartment in the Noelani Apartment complex through a window. Approximately 40 minutes later police arrested Tabura and recovered jewelry and coins taken from the apartment.

Police ask anyone with information about the robbery or the identity of Tabura’s accomplice to call Detective Nancy Haitsuka from the Kona Criminal Investigations Section at 326-4646 ext. 281 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is confidential.
