MEDIA RELEASE

South Kohala police are looking for the culprit or culprits who poisoned five 30-foot ficus trees in the Puako Beach Lots subdivision.

The trees were located directly across from the Puako Condominiums.

Responding to a report last Friday (March 29, 2002), officers determined that the suspect or suspects apparently drilled holes in the base of the trees and applied poison, which killed them.

The landscaped trees were valued at more than $10,000, and their owner is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for destroying them.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call South Kohala Police Officer Carl Mildrum or Community Police Officer Tom Wright at 887-3080.
