Puna police arrested a 49-year-old Puna man Friday (March 16, 2001) for attempted murder after a badly injured female was hospitalized in Honolulu in critical condition.

Responding to a 5:25 p.m. call that a woman was being assaulted alongside the Puna Post Office road, Puna patrol officers arrived to find a 40-year-old woman with severe injuries to her face and head.

The victim was taken to the Hilo Medical Center, where she was treated for her injuries, and later flown to the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.

At 6:42 p.m., Puna patrol officers arrested Allen Alani Aku, 49, of Kahakai Boulevard for attempted murder.

The suspect was being held in the Hilo police cellblock Friday evening pending further investigation by Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives.
