MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

A 24-year-old man wanted for stabbing three persons turned himself into police Tuesday (August 8, 2000).

At 1:30 p.m., Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives arrested Vincent Higa for attempted murder, reckless endangering and terroristic threatening. Higa was also charged with a parole violation.

Higa allegedly stabbed three persons during a fight late Sunday at a Hawaiian Paradise Park residence in Puna.

Responding to an 11:49 p.m. call, Puna Patrol officers determined that Higa got into a fight with Justin Young, 25, who was stabbed during an argument. Tony Young, 23, Justin’s brother, then tried to intervene, but was cut on his back. While attempting to stop the fight, Angela Young, 28, the suspect’s girlfriend and the Youngs’ sister, was stabbed in the upper right chest.

The three victims were taken to the Hilo Medical Center. Tony Young was treated for superficial injuries and released. Justin and Angela Young were hospitalized after undergoing surgery for their wounds.
